Of the 25 people who were pre-emptively arrested\, 15 have been charged with ‘going equipped to lock on’ and will stand trial at Leeds Magistrates Court this autumn\, starting on 22 September and expected to last until 2nd October. \nThe 15 protesters were arrested preemptively\, whilst planning a peaceful protest camp against Drax\, the UK’s single largest carbon emitter – now emitting more than the next four largest UK polluters combined and more than the six most carbon-intensive gas power plants put together. \nThis is part of an escalating pattern of state repression\, silencing of peaceful protest and distracting attention from the real harms our government is complicit in. \nJoin us in Leeds to stand in solidarity with the Drax 15 and to show Drax we will continue to exercise our right to peaceful protest and speak out about their dirty tricks. \nThe Drax 15: in solidarity with affected communities resisting environmental and health injustices\nDrax power station in North Yorkshire burns wood pellets shipped from Mississippi in the U.S. Trees are milled and processed at the Drax plant in Gloster\, Mississippi\, creating significant local air pollution\, before being burnt in the UK. \nDrax has multiple times been fined for air pollution violations: $2.5 million in 2020 —one of the largest air-pollution fines in state history —and again last year for emitting more than 50% of its permitted limit of toxic chemical pollutants. \nThe Drax 15 stand in solidarity with Greater Greener Gloster\, a community response to local environmental and public health injustices related to the Drax Biomass facility in Gloster\, Mississippi which opened there in 2016. A recent community action took the residents of Gloster to state capital Jackson\, where they spoke against a Drax application to increase emissions limits. They won and Drax was denied any increases. Greater Greener Gloster seeks justice for the damages associated with the air pollution affecting the underserved community – watch their stories here. \nDetails and logistics\nChilled Sunday evening social in Leeds: Consider travelling to Leeds the Sunday before the trial starts (Sun 21st Sept) – we may be able to provide some limited crash space in Leeds but can’t confirm this yet. \nPlease join us outside the court for the first day of the trial on Monday 22 September from 09:00. SUMMARY:National Gathering - Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Reclaim the Power have their next gathering from 22nd to 23rd February 2025 in Manchester! The exact location of the gathering will be emailed to you a week before. \nThe location for Saturday will be in central Manchester: the closest train stations are Manchester Victoria (10 mins walk)\, Manchester Piccadilly (15 mins walk)\, and Manchester Oxford Road (25 mins walk). The venue for Sunday will be slightly outside of central Manchester; the nearest train station is Levenshulme. \nThis is our first national gathering since the planned camp against Drax was pre-emptively shut down by the police. The gathering will be taking some learnings and reflections from the debrief (in Sheffield in November 2024) and look forward to the strategy of Reclaim the Power for the next few months. It is both aimed for new people who have never come to anything in RtP\, including if you were going to come to the camp\, as well as those who have been here for years. All are welcome! \nWho are Reclaim the Power?\nReclaim the Power is a UK based direct action network fighting for social\, environmental and economic justice. We aim to build a broad based movement\, working in solidarity with frontline communities to effectively confront environmentally destructive industries and the social and economic forces driving climate change. \nWhat is Drax?\nDrax is a wood biomass power station located near Selby\, in Yorkshire. It is a former coal-power station that converted to biomass\, and now entirely burns wood biomass. Drax is the UKs single largest carbon emitter and world’s biggest tree burner. Their actions have been repeatedly linked to driving environmental racism and causing huge amounts of harm to communities\, forests and biodiversity. \nWhat is a gathering?\nWe organise two-day national gatherings to make collective decisions.  These are held at different towns and cities across the country. We use them to make important decisions\, but they also serve as spaces for learning\, developing skills and getting to know people. \nAll our gatherings provide crash space\, childcare\, and cheap and vegan food. All our meeting venues are wheelchair accessible. \nWe try to make our gatherings as inclusive as possible for newcomers\, including the use of a friendly “buddy” system\, so don’t worry if you’ve never been to anything like this before! \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Reclaim the Power have their next gathering from 24th to 25th Feb 2024. The exact location of the gathering will be emailed to you a week before. The nearest station is York station which it is a short walk away (5-10 mins). \nWe are focusing on Drax\, with a planned mass action camp on 8th-13th August 2024. The gathering will be focusing on decisions on the run up to the camp\, and is aimed for new people who have never come to anything in RtP as well as those who have been here for years. In short\, all are welcome. \nWho are Reclaim the Power?\nReclaim the Power is a UK based direct action network fighting for social\, environmental and economic justice. We aim to build a broad based movement\, working in solidarity with frontline communities to effectively confront environmentally destructive industries and the social and economic forces driving climate change. \nWhat is Drax?\nDrax is a wood biomass power station located near Selby\, in Yorkshire. It is a former coal-power station that converted to biomass\, and now entirely burns wood biomass. Drax is the UKs single largest carbon emitter and world’s biggest tree burner. Their actions have been repeatedly linked to driving environmental racism and causing huge amounts of harm to communities\, forests and biodiversity. \nWhat is a gathering?\nWe organise two-day national gatherings to make collective decisions.  These are held at different towns and cities across the country. We use them to make important decisions\, but they also serve as spaces for learning\, developing skills and getting to know people. \nAll our gatherings provide crash space\, childcare\, and cheap and vegan food. All our meeting venues are wheelchair accessible. \nWe try to make our gatherings as inclusive as possible for newcomers\, including the use of a friendly “buddy” system\, so don’t worry if you’ve never been to anything like this before! \n  \n
