Programme: Drax Camp 2024

What to expect at the Reclaim the Power camp this year

The Reclaim the Power camp runs from 8th to 13th August. Each day has time to work on the site and camp together, and many days will have workshops (both practical and sitting) along with an action day on Monday.

Thursday 8th August

Site set up and people arriving. There will be no programmed workshops this day. It is your chance to land, get to know people and put up a tent (or a few).

There will be coaches running this day from Leeds train station to the site. You can book them here.

Friday 9th August

Start the day by getting to know others on the camp, and be matched up to an “affinity group” to take action with.

After lunch, you can go to your workshop of choice from migrant justice 101 with No Borders in Climate Justice to a wide game.

The day ends with the second part of “activist speed dating” where you get to know the group of people you have been assigned. You’ll be handed your missions for the camp.

Saturday 10th August

The most exciting part of this day is the chance to speak directly with the community living next door to Drax’s pellet production plant in Gloster, Mississippi. We will share stories between the frontline and our camp in Yorkshire, hearing the devastating reality of those in Drax’s “sacrifice zone”.

It will be a busy day of both sit-down talking workshops with some rich and exciting content, to more physical action training and games.

Crucially, there will be sessions on worker solidarity and a worker led transition with much needed conversation about not just what we need to transform the world but practical ways we can start doing it with Drax a focus.

This will be tied off with a visit from Lucy and Hazel and Pete the Temp for evening entertainment.

Sunday 11th August

Sunday is our last day of “programme” before the day of action, and it is packed.

Everything from how to get over fences, practical stills for organising, and broad climate movement strategy. Although, if you want to play in a field there is space for that too. If there is one theme for the day it would be solidarity: how we work together beyond differences for common goals.

Monday 12th August

This will be a day of action against Drax.

Tuesday 13th August

The final day of the camp, with lots of work to do start taking down site and clearing up behind ourselves.

There will be coaches leaving from site at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. Make sure you are booked in here.
