As of 8pm Thursday, the Reclaim the Power camp was set up by activists near Balcombe, Sussex.

Reclaim the Power is joining local residents in their opposition to fracking by the company Cuadrilla next to their village.

Cuadrilla said in a statement they would suspend drilling operations due to the protest.[1]

Protestor Luke Johnson said, “Cuadrilla’s announcement that they’ll halt drilling is already a victory for us, but it’s only a start. We would like to make sure they don’t frack in Balcombe, or anywhere else at all!”

The camp programme starts on Friday 16th when the bulk of participants are expected to gather at 1pm at Balcombe train station to proceed to the camp site. The weekend’s programme[2] includes workshops on the dash for gas and austerity, skill sharing, and actions.

Ewa Jasiewicz of No Dash For Gas said, “We are excited to be here in Balcombe to stand in solidarity with the local community in opposing dirty fossil fuel extraction. The camp aims to be a fully accessible and safe space where locals and guests alike will feel welcome! We will leave the site as we found it.”

See PRESS PACK[3] for outline schedule, background resources, policies and more.

DIRECTIONS:
From Balcombe rail station follow London road (B2036) south for 1.8 miles, turn right onto Cherry lane. The camp site will be on your left.
